Implementation of bioindication in the Magdalena and Cauca Rivers catchment area. Pre-campaign and sampling campaign for the diagnosis of network stations and the determination of water quality.

The study consisted in the placement of artificial substrates in 14 stations in the Magdalena River for the diatom sampling and the viability analysis in 30 stations for the implementation of bioindication as a complementary tool to the physico-chemical parameters and integrative of ecological conditions in time. For this purpose, the analysis of natural conditions was carried out, as well as the diatom sampling in 27 stations in Cauca River Basin District and 40 stations in Magdalena River Catchment area, the preparation of slides and taxonomical and ecological analysis of the diatom community of each sampled station. With this information, the detailed analysis of the applicability of international indices for water quality based on diatoms was executed, with the OMNIDIA software. The final objective was improved the knowledge and increase the database of these bioindicators in the country that allow, in future, the development of a totally adapted index to the natural conditions.
